Cameron: Russia , West can overcome differences over Syria

Russia and the West can overcome their differences over the conflict in Syria, British Prime Minister David Cameron said Sunday after a pre-G8 summit meeting with President Vladimir Putin. It was "no secret" that Britain and Russia did not "see eye to eye" over Syria, Cameron said. But "where there is common ground is that we both see a humanitarian catastrophe, we both see the dangers of extremism." "If we focus on that common ground we can indeed make some progress," he said. Putin agreed that the G8 summit was "one of the most appropriate means of resolving the Syrian issue. It can be solved only by diplomatic means.
