Egyptian presidency hails Morsi's first year achievements

The Egyptian presidency issued a report ahead of the first anniversary of President Mohamed Morsi's rule to highlight his achievements in the past year, state-run al- Ahram online reported Friday. The report tackled accomplishments in the aspects of economy, electricity, tourism, and democratic transition. Investments in Egypt grew in the first nine months of the fiscal year 2012-2013 from 170.4 billions Egyptian pound (24.25 billion U.S. dollars) to 181.9 billion Egyptian pound (25.95 billion dollars), the report said. The report also said the number of tourists in the country increased in the same period from 8.2 million to 9.2 million. Concerning social justice, the report said about 1.9 million employees benefited from the policy of raising the standard of minimum wage. Entitled democratic transition, the report pointed to the constitution that was approved by two thirds of the Egyptians through a "clear and transparent public referendum." Other achievements in the aspects of electricity, human rights, and freedoms were tackled in the report, which came ahead of the opposition's planned anti-Morsi mass demonstrations set for June 30. Morsi is currently facing a rebel campaign called "Tamarrud" led by activists and opposition leaders, who have gathered millions of petitions calling for his ouster. They also seek to press him for an early presidential election through the June 30 demonstrations.
