German aid group: Worker kidnapped in Syria free

A German group says an aid worker kidnapped in northern Syria in May is free and has crossed the border into Turkey, AP reported. The Gruenhelme organization said Ziad Nouri freed himself from his captors. It gave no details but said Nouri crossed into Turkey on Tuesday. The group says Nouri was one of three aid workers who were taken by unknown persons from the town of Harem in Idlib district in mid-May. It says the other two escaped in early July. German Foreign Ministry spokesman Andreas Peschke confirmed Wednesday that a German citizen was able to leave Syria for Turkey. Peschke refused to give details of his release.
