Intensive consultations underway on Ethiopia's dam meetings

Egypt's Irrigation and Water Resources Ministry said Tuesday the country is keen on achieving model technical studies on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam "before it's too late."

Egypt is committed to rule of "Neither harm nor malice" in dealing with the file Renaissance Dam, adviser for Irrigation Minister and Spokesman for the dam's commission Alaa Yassin said in a statement.

The statement stressed the need to activate the political course of negotiations to support and strengthen efforts at the technical track that is "long overdue", while construction process alarmingly advances on the ground.

High-level consultations are being held between the government of Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia to organize a six-party meeting, before the 10th round of the tripartite meeting of the water ministers and members of the National Technical Committee on the dam, the statement said.

The meeting aims at discussing political and technical aspects of negotiations on the Renaissance Dam, taking the Egyptian concerns into account, the statement added.

The meeting will focus on resolving differences, in light of the principles agreement signed between the leaders of the three countries in March, the statement said.
