A prominent Iranian lawmaker warned that the Muslim as well as the independent nations will show tough reaction to any US-led military aggression against Damascus. “Syria is fully prepared to defend itself and respond to any possible US attack; the Muslim and independent states will not remain silent if the US attacks Syria either,” Rapporteur of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini told reporters on Sunday. The senior legislator said that the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission in its session on Sunday reviewed the possibility of a US attack on Syria and its regional and global repercussions. “In the session which was attended by foreign policy, military and security officials, the latest movements of the US and its allies in the region were discussed,” Naqavi Hosseini added. The US and other western countries have adopted the rhetoric of war against Syria over allegations that the Syrian government was behind a recent chemical attack near Damascus. The call for military strike intensified after the militants operating inside Syria and the foreign-backed Syrian opposition claimed on August 21 that hundreds had been killed in a government chemical attack on militant strongholds in the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar. The Syrian government has strongly denied the claim, accusing the militants of the attack.
