Kuwait plane flies to Sudan carrying supplies to floods' victims

A Kuwaiti aircraft boarding 10 tons of food and relief supplies flew to Sudan on Friday, bringing the number of plane-loads of humanitarian aid dispatched by the Gulf State to the flood-stricken African nation to seven. Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) said in a statement the plane took off from Abdullah Al-Mubarak Air Base, carrying "the supplies to relieve the brotherly Sudanese people," suffering from hardships due to floods that swamped several regions of the country. The sixth Kuwaiti aircraft that flew to Sudan, on Wednesday, carried 20 tons of aid supplies, power generators, water equipment, various relief items and a fully-equipped ambulance. The total number of plane-loads of Kuwaiti relief supplies for the victims of the floods is planned by the KRCS to be at least 10. The Red Crescent affirmed in today's statement that a field team of the society was proceeding its mission on the ground in Sudan to distribute the supplies to those in need. The Kuwaiti team is coordinating with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society in carrying out the humanitarian mission. Sudan is in dire need for further assistance to cope with the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, the KRCS statement added. According to the UN, more than half a million Sudanese were affected with torrential rains and floods. More than 50 people died due to the natural disaster that affected most of Sudan's governorates.
