Moscow: al-Nusra will get western weapons if imported to Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia has no doubt that Jabhat al-Nusra will get the Western weapons in case of importing to Syria. "The difference between Russian and the West is related to the means of settling the crisis in Syria not on the final goals, Lavrov added in an interview with Russia 24 TV channel on Thursday. He asserted that "all sides don't want the repetition of the Iraqi scenario in Syria." Lavrov said that the Syrian leadership confirmed to Moscow its approval on the recommendations of G-8 summit and reiterated readiness to participate in the upcoming international conference on Syria. In the same context, the Russian Minister pointed out that the Western countries are not sure that they will be able to convince the opposition of the necessity of taking part in the conference. Lavrov: Russia's proposal on deploying Russian forces in Syrian Golan aimed to guarantee security in region Russia's foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov said that the Russian peace-keeping forces in the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in Golan might be an excellent alternative to save security and stability in the region. ITAR-TASS quoted Lavrov as saying that ''the UN 1974 agreement that bars UN Security Council member states from having peace-keeping forces goes back to the Cold War era.'' Lavrov said that there are no logical reasons for not allowing Russian peace-keeping forces in the Syrian Golan, adding that ''the deployment o these forces will depend on the readiness of the Syrian government and Israel, and I don't see why they might not agree.'' Earlier, Austria decided to pull out its troops from the UN peacekeeping force, while Russia has repeatedly showed willingness to send the necessary military units to carry out the mission in Golan. Lavrov, Barzani: Political solution to Syria crisis irreplaceable Russia's Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov discussed with Massoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan region in Iraq, the situation in Syria and the preparations for holding the international conference for solving the crisis there. The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the talks came on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, with the situation in the Middle East dominating the agenda. The talks stressed that there is no alternative to the political settlement to the crisis in Syria through the international conference in Geneva. Abdollahian: Extremists attack Syrian people and stir up differences in Syrian society Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Amir Abdollahian said that the extremists are attacking the Syrian people and inciting differences in the Syrian society. Al-Alam website quoted Abdollahian, who is on a current visit to Kuwait, as saying that ''the calls of some for Jihad against the Syrian government and its allies stoke extremism in the region,'' indicating that Iran's support to Syria is related to economic, political and media fields, but not military. Several fatwas were issued recently that call for bloodshed in Syria under the pretext of Jihad, in service of US schemes. Brazilian FM renews support for finding solution to Syria crisis Brazil's Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota renewed his country's support for finding solutions to the crisis in Syria based on Geneva communiqué issued in June 30, 2012. The Brazilian News Agency said that Patriota discussed the issue with the UN envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi during a meeting on Wednesday in the Norwegian capital, Oslo. Brahimi lauded the efforts of the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov and the U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry for finding a solution to the crisis. The Brazilian FM and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov discussed on June 12 in Rio de Janeiro the situation in Syria, with Patriota stressing that Geneva statement is the basis for any negotiations for solving the crisis.
