Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday welcomed efforts exerted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to revive the peace process between the Israeli and Palestinian sides.
At a press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Netanyahu welcomed an initiative of Sisi for a leading Egyptian role in pushing forward peace between the Israeli and Palestinian sides and a wider initiative in the region.
He also hailed the peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan as a foundation stone of stability for the region.
"I call again on the Palestinians to follow the courageous example of Egypt and Jordan and join us for direct negotiations. This is the only way we can address all the outstanding issues between us and turn the vision of peace based on two states for two peoples into a reality," Netanyahu said.
Egypt's foreign minister Sameh Shoukri has paid a visit to Israel this morning to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on reviving peace efforts with the Palestinians.
