
Pakistan has welcomed the opening of the Afghan Taliban political office in Doha in order to bring peace to Afghanistan and the region. According to a statement issued by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry last night, Pakistan welcomed the start of direct peace talks between the United States and Taliban movement. Pakistan had long called for "a peaceful and negotiated solution" to the Afghan conflict and had repeatedly urged an early end to the war in order to re-establish peace and security in the region," according to the statement. Pakistan had played a constructive and positive role in accomplishing this important achievement in support of a peace process in Afghanistan, the statement added. Pakistan expressed readiness to facilitate the process of achieving a lasting peace in Afghanistan in accordance with the wishes of the Afghan people, the statement said.
