Egypt’s Speaker Ali Abdel Aal on Thursday voiced dismay on a decision taken by the Italian parliament to suspend the supply of military spare parts to Cairo.
In a statement, Abdel Aal described it an escalation that would have negative impacts on the relations.
The lawmaker criticized the decision for the ‘bad timing’ when Egypt is engaged in fierce war against terrorism.
He urged the parliaments of the two nations to intensify talks and contacts to have an inclusive and rational view on the challenges.
Last week, Italy’s Senate voted to halt supplies of spare parts for Egypt's American-made F16 warplanes in protest at Cairo’s handling of the investigation into the killing of Regeni, whose body was found by a Cairo roadside in February bearing signs of torture.
