Ankara - SANA

Turkish police on Thursday used water cannon and paper gas to disperse the protestors in Ankara who demand Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan to quit. The three-week protests against the government of the Justice and Development Party led by Erdogan continued despite that Erdogan's government practiced suppressive measures and resorted to violence against the peaceful protestors . On Monday, Turkish dancer Erdem Gunduz staged a silent vigil on Taksim Square in support of the protestors and inspired copycat protests by hundreds of others in Istanbul, Ankara Izmir and other cities. Gunduz staged an eight-hour silent vigil in the Square as he stood silently, facing the Ataturk Cultural Center, from 6pm on Monday. Gunduz is swiftly dubbed as "the standing man" by social media the scene which inspired hundreds of others in several Turkish cities. Turkish Radikal daily said that the security forces launched a campaign of arrest against the Turkish citizens who staged a silent vigil at the charge of resisting the police through standing motionless. While, Turkish Joumhouriyet newspaper stressed that the government of the Justice and Development Party pursues the participants in the public strike which was organized two-day ago. Turkish Sol Haber said that the protests continued on Wednesday in the cities of Samson, Mersin, some ears in Istanbul, Ankara , Adana, Tarsus and Iskisehir and other cities. Odatv website stressed that the government of the Justice and Development Party continues the strategy of escalating tension , asserting that the strategy of violence and tension will lead to fragmenting Turkey through spreading sedition in the country.
