South Korea, Palestine agree to deepen ties

The South Korean Foreign Ministry said that South Korea and Palestine agreed on Friday to beef up their cooperation on the economic front and deepen their bilateral ties, Yonhap news agency reported.

Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and the Palestinian Authority's top diplomat Riyad al-Maliki held talks earlier in the day in Seoul on bilateral issues, the Israel-Palestine conflict and security issues on the Korean Peninsula, according to the ministry.

Malki arrived in Seoul on Wednesday for a three-day visit, accompanying his country's leader Mahmoud Abbas.

South Korea asked Palestine to join the international community's move to take stern action against North Korea over its latest fourth nuclear test and long-range rocket launch, according to the ministry.

In response, Maliki expressed his support for such a move, saying that the North's nuke and missile provocations cannot be tolerated, the ministry said.
