British Foreign Secretary William Hague has welcomed the "concrete step on Jordan''s path of reform" after the King of Jordan announced changes to the constitution. "The United Kingdom welcomes King Abdullah II’s announcement proposing amendments to the Jordanian constitution. Strengthening the rights of citizens and the parliamentary process will be important steps on the path of democratic reform," Hague told reporters today. "The King has called for Parliament to agree amendments within a month, and we look forward to this as a concrete step on Jordan’s path of reform. The United Kingdom stands ready to support Jordan in these efforts, including through our Arab Partnership work that supports democracy and the rule of law across the Middle East," he added.
