World leaders observe minute of silence over Paris victims

The participating world leaders in the UN Climate Change summit, including President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, observed on Monday a minute of silence in mourning of the victims of the terrorist attacks that hit Paris on November 13.

Nearly 150 world leaders, including the presidents of the US and China, are taking part in the summit, to run till December 11.

Many leaders were keen to take part in the first climate summit to highlight the importance of mitigating global warming effects and to express solidarity with France following the terrorist attacks that left 130 persons dead.

Sisi will deliver a speech at the summit on behalf of the African countries to to express their support for reaching a binding agreement on climate change that takes into account the rights of all sides.

More than 40,000 delegates from 195 countries are attending COP21 with hope that the agreement would keep global warming below what most scientists say is the critical threshold of 2 degrees Celsius of warming.
