A Lebanese military patrol came under fire from gunmen in Tripoli's Bab Al-Tabbaneh neighborhood, wounding three soldiers, Army Command Guidance Directorate said in a statement Monday. The army pointed out that the attack took place during the army deployment in Tripoli to help end infighting and restore security. Army personnel responded to fire and took extraordinary measures to arrest shooters and bring them to justice, added the statement. In the meantime, the army continued its deployment operation. Lebanon is struggling to contain the spillover of the violence stemming from the civil war in the neighboring Syria, where more than 100,000 people have been killed in the past 31 months. The clashes between pro-Syrian regime Alawites in Jabel Mohsen and anti-Syrian regime Sunnis in Bab Al-Tebaneh erupted last Tuesday and continued over the weekend to kill over 17 people and wound more than 100. Sunnis and Alawites clashed in Tripoli on and off for decades, but the Syrian conflict has reopened old wounds, with each side accusing the other of using the city as a base for sending fighters and weapons in and out of Syria
