
The Moroccan transport ministry said on Saturday that 3,593 people were killed in road accidents in Morocco in 2016, an increase of 0.79 percent year-on-year.
According to the statistics released by the ministry on the national day of road safety (Feb. 18), the number of the victims of the road accidents in urban areas posts a significant increase of 3.6 percent in 2016.
The number of road accidents jumped from 78,864 in 2015 to 81,827 in 2016, the statistics show.
The ministry ascribed 80 percent of the accidents to human factors.
Morocco has adopted a new strategy 2015-2025 vowing to reduce the road accident victims by 50 percent.
