
On behalf of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, The Personal Representative of HM the King, Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) President His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al-Khalifa attended the opening session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP22).
The global event opened under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI of Morocco in Marrakesh, in the presence of leaders and officials representing countries, regional, international and civil organisations, environmental advocates and other parties. The Moroccan leader received HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al-Khalifa who conveyed to him greetings from HM the King, wishing Morocco and its people further progress and prosperity.
He extended HM the King's wishes of success to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP22) to achieve its goals. The Moroccan leader extended greetings to HM the King, wishing Bahrain and its people further progress and prosperity.
HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al-Khalifa thanked the Moroccan leadership and people for hosting COP22, stressing Bahrain's support to Morocco to ensure the success of the UN conference. "Bahrain's participation in the conference reflects keenness on HM the King's directives to support international cooperation and partnership", he said, highlighting Bahrain's strides in protecting the environment, promoting sustainable development, adopting voluntary steps to reduce emissions, encouraging green initiatives and investing renewable sources of energy.
The Kingdom of Bahrain, he said, has already ratified the International Framework Convention on Climate Change and reduction of greenhouse gas emission. The SCE has attended meetings and workshops which contributed to the elaboration of the global covenant.
The Personal Representative of HM the King attended the opening ceremony, during which the Moroccan leader delivered a keynote speech, welcoming the participants. Other speeches were also delivered the opening ceremony. HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al-Khalifa attended a lunch banquet which was hosted by HM King Mohammed VI in honour of heads of delegations which are taking part in COP22 in Marrakesh.
The opening session was also attended by SCE Deputy President HH Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al-Khalifa, Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed bin Daina and Bahrain Ambassador to Rabat Khalid bin Salman Al-Musallem, in addition to the accompanying delegation.
