In celebration of the 45th National Day of the UAE, the Shangri-La, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi have partnered up with Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts, an Emirates Red Crescent initiative that seeks to empower underprivileged women using indigenous arts and crafts that are inspired by the rich heritage of the UAE.
Between November 30th and December 4th, traditional Bedouin craftswomen from Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts will be handcrafting and selling items made using the intricate ‘talli’ embroidery and ‘sadu’ weaving in the hotel.
Mr Thomas Guss, the General Manager of the Shangri-La, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi ,stated: "As a destination for people to visit from all around the world we always try and share the true essence of Arabic culture, and embrace our arabesque style.
We can’t wait to have a special group like Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts at this monumental time of year. It’s going to be a celebration of culture from Wednesday to Sunday, and we’re honoured to be hosting".
Established in 2006, Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts have helped women earn a source of income for over a decade, by offering UAE craftswomen training, supplies and services. In addition, Al Ghadeer UAE Crafts have pioneered the preservation of traditional crafts that are a part of the UAE’s artistic heritage.
All proceedings from the handicraft sale will go to Al Ghadeer which in turn will aid in preserving and encouraging the traditional art of handcrafting.
