The constitutional and legislative affairs committee of the House of Representatives rejected during a meeting Monday under Counselor Bahaeddin Abu Shuqqah two bills presented by MPs Nadia Hinary and Ahmed Said on amending some articles of penal code no. 58 of 1937 on publishing indecent articles.
The committee members called for keeping the current law unchanged while adding a new article to the criminal procedures law and filing lawsuits against those who publish indecent articles.
The amendment had stipulated a fine ranging between EGP 5,000 and 50,000 for every person publishing, printing or drawing indecent articles.
