
Tunisia’s prime minister-designate Mehdi Jomaa on Friday began forming a government to run the country until the next round of elections.President Moncef Marzouki gave Jomaa two weeks to form a technocratic cabinet that will take over from the outgoing prime minister outgoing prime minister Ali Larayedh for the remainder of the transitional period. No date has been set for the elections, though they are expected this year.Jomaa, a non-partisan engineer who served as industry minister for the past few months, said his team would treat all political parties equally.“I hope my team will succeed in overcoming challenges and in restoring the confidence of Tunisians (in their government),” he told the press. “I have no miracle solutions, but I will do my best.”
