
The Cabinet held an extraordinary meeting Monday to discuss housing problem, with Minister of State for Housing Salem Al-Athaina briefing members over practical solutions to establish new cities with private sector's participation. The meeting, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah at Sief Palace, is part of government's great interest in housing "as one of the pillars of stability for the Kuwaiti family, " Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Minister of Health Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Sabah said in a statement after the meeting. He noted that the housing issue topped priorities of Kuwaiti citizens, as shown by a National Assembly's poll. Al-Athaina and executives at the public housing authority briefed the cabinet members about the nature of the housing problem and obstacles facing implementation of housing projects. They explained the housing units that were distributed and number of housing applications, as well as projected applications. Al-Athaina and the public housing authority's executives also spoke about underconstruction projects, practical suggestions to establish new cities in collaboration of the private sector. The cabinet, said Sheikh Mohammad, also discussed the details of the services and facilities of these housing projects, as well as their legislative, financial, social and economic prerequisites.
