Lebanon's Mufti Abdel Latif Derian condemned the riot acts that took place in central Beirut.
In press statements on Monday, Derian said that keeping the government is the only way to elect a new president.
Without the presence of the government and the wisdom of the premier Tammam Salam, the country would have collapsed, the Lebanese official underlined.
"We should support Salam during this critical phase in the country's history where there is a political vacuum due to the suspension of the parliament," he reiterated.
Derian further said that he backs the demands of the Lebanese people, stressing that it is not acceptable to spread chaos, attack security forces or damage public or private properties.
