Moscow will support the idea of the Cairo Group of Syrian opposition to establish a transitional body of five units if it is approved by Syrians themselves, Russian president’s special envoy for the Middle East and North Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told TASS news agency on Friday.
"We only underscore one key thought: Syrians themselves should solve all these issues between themselves. Russia is not a party to the conflict, we can’t impose decisions or work them out instead of Syrians," Bogdanov said.
Moscow also supports the establishment of a united leadership in the Moscow-Cairo Group of the Syrian opposition, which could help consolidate the opposition into a single delegation.
