A number of mosques across the UAE have been named after Emirati martyrs as part of a nationwide campaign to commemorate their sacrifices, the Martyrs' Families' Affairs Office at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court announced on Thursday.
"This joint initiative, launched by the federal General Authority of Islamic Affairs And Endowments, Dubai's Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities and the Sharjah Islamic Affairs, aims to show pride in the sacrifices and heroism of the martyrs who defended the country and protected its glory. This shows unity and cohesion among all segments of the Emirati society," said Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Director of the Martyrs' Families' Affairs Office.
The mosques were selected because of their proximity to the homes of the martyrs' families, Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoun said, and noted that congregations at these mosques will pray for the martyrs.
"#The_UAE_Remembers campaign aims to show the society's appreciation of the sacrifices made by the martyrs to defend their country and seeks to engage all people in the UAE, including citizens and expatriates, to show their pride in the martyrs," said Dr Mohammad Mattar Al Kaabi, Chairman of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments.
The #UAE_Commemoration_Day, originally referred to as Martyrs Day, was first observed last year on 30th November.
