Religious Endowments (Awqaf) Minister Mohammad Abdelsattar al-Sayyed called for expressing faith during Ramadan by showing people the true nature of Islam which calls for goodness, charity, piety, and caring for others.
In a speech on Saturday on occasion of Ramadan month, al-Sayyed said that Ramadan is a time of virtue, mercy, charity, and forgiveness, and that it should be a time of spirituality and blessings when Muslims show the depth of their devotion and generosity.
The Minister said that Ramadan comes at a time when Syria is undergoing a decisive stage in its history, with the Syrians making their voices heard and choosing their leader, showing fealty to the blood of martyrs who died to keep Syria strong, proud, and impregnable.
He said Syria’s Muslim scholars must teach people the true Islam which calls for doing good, being charitable, and coming together, and which does not exclude others and promote murder and hatred, stressing that Islam is a religion of unity, protection, building, and moderation, not a religion of division, destruction, and injustice.
Al-Sayyed said there’s no room in Islam for terrorism and takfiri extremism, calling for Ramadan to be a chance for improving moral standards and embracing the noble values of Islam as embodied by the actions and example of the Prophet Mohammad.
