Tunisians staged a demonstration in the capital Tunis to support the Syrian government and denounce the Israeli regime. The protesters, including students, labor union members, and politicians on Friday also threw their support behind the Syrian Army in its fight against foreign-backed militants in the country, press tv reported. Protesters also denounced the interference of Tunisian authorities in the internal affairs of Damascus. They called for resumption of ties between Damascus and Tunis and the return of the Syrian ambassador to the North African country. "We are demonstrating to support the Syrian people, government and brave army who’re well aware of foreign political and military conspiracies. We also are calling for resumption of diplomatic ties between Tunisia and Syria," unionist Nafti Houla said. Protesters also burned the Israeli flag and denounced the normalization of ties between certain Arab countries and the Tel Aviv regime. Tunisians also accused foreign powers of financing and arming the militants fighting in Syria. Since the beginning of the unrest in Syria, Tunisian people have sided with the Syrian army and people. Observers say the support is growing more than ever as the army has made considerable progress in the battle against the foreign-backed militants across the country. Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. Reports indicate that the western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside the country. According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions of others displaced in the violence.
