One illegal immigrant drowned and 29 others are still missing as a boat sank Tuesday in the Aegean Sea off western Turkey, private Bugun news reported.
The boat capsized as it carried 37 immigrants heading towards the Greek island of Istankoy as it disembarked from the town of Didim in the province of Aydin, with search and rescue teams managing to rescue only seven individuals so far, according to the report.
The report added that Coast Guards are still conducting search and rescue operations in the area to find the remaining 29 missing migrants.
Turkey, located between Asia and Europe, has become a major transit point for Middle Eastern and Asian migrant refugees fleeing poverty or conflict in their home countries.
