
Pirates have hijacked a Maltese-flagged oil tanker off the coast of Nigeria, killing one person and taking three others hostage, dpa quoted the Greek Merchant Marine Ministry as saying in a statement Wednesday.
Officials said the 281,000-dwt tanker Kalamos was anchored off the coast of Nigeria at Qua Iboe with 23 crew aboard, among them 10 Greek netionals, when dozens of pirates attempted to board the ship.
According to the ministry statement, the ship's first officer was killed and three crew, among them two Greeks, were abducted.
