At least 12 people were killed Friday in a night raid on a town in Nigerian's northeastern Borno State by suspected Boko Haram militants, a security source said on Saturday.
The militants raided Ngamdu, a remote community along Maiduguri- Damaturu highway, said the source who requested anonymity.
"Already, our troops and some Civilian JTF (vigilante) have been mobilized to the area to dislodge the insurgents from the road," the source added.
Ba'ana Moh'd, a vigilante member at Beneshiek, some 70 kilometers from the town, told Xinhua that the insurgents opened fired on residents, killing at least 12. Scores were also injured, he said.
"They burnt down houses and carted away food stuffs," he said on phone.
