At least 12 people were killed and more than 70 others injured on Thursday in two separate road accidents in Tanzania's regions of Tanga and Morogoro.
In one of the accidents, two buses collided head on at Mbweni- Mkata in Tanga region, killing 10 people and injuring 35 others.
Juma Ndaki, Tanga regional police commander, said the two buses collided after their drivers tried to avoid a salon car that had lost control and veered off road.
"Among the dead were a former Member of Parliament and his son who were in the salon car," said Ndaki.
He said one of the buses were plying from Dar es Salaam to Arusha while the other was being driven from Tanga to Dar es Salaam.
In another accident, two people were killed and 48 others were injured when their bus veered off the road and overturned after it had failed to overtake another vehicle near Mikumi National Park in Morogoro region.
In March, seven people died on the spot and 48 others were injured after two buses collided in the Mikumi National Park, located 283 km west of Tanzania's commercial capital Dar es Salaam.
The accident occurred nine days after 50 people were killed in a horror road accident in Tanzania's southern highlands when their bus collided with a lorry.
In his 2015 New Year message to the east African nation, Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete said in 2014 there were 14,048 accidents that caused 3,534 deaths and 16,166 injuries.
