At least 13 people died in the pit of an iron ore mine in eastern China when a mining capsule fell on them, authorities said. The incident occurred late Thursday at a privately run iron ore mine in Luchen township in Shandong province, China's official Xinhua news agency reported. It was not clear whether there were other workers in the pit at the time of the accident, but the report said rescuers had confirmed that 13 people had died. A preliminary investigation showed the capsule fell after a steel rope holding it snapped, the report quoted officials as saying. An investigation has been ordered.
