Some 160 aftershocks were registered in the southern Siberian Republic of Tuva since a powerful earthquake in December, a regional Emergencies Ministry’s department said on Tuesday. A 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit the republic of Tuva on December 27, causing no damage or casualties. The epicenter of the quake was registered at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) some 120 km (75 miles) to the east of the city of Kyzyl. “The territory of Tuva was struck by 157 aftershocks between December 27 and February 27,” the department said in a statement. The region was hit by another earthquake of 6-7 magnitude on Sunday and it was followed by eight aftershocks on Monday. The local authorities introduced a state of emergency in the region following the quake on Sunday.
