Bodies of at least nineteen people were recovered from two beaches of the southern Karachi city of Pakistan on Thursday, said officials.
According to rescue officials, these people were drowned while bathing into the sea at two separate beaches in Karachi on Wednesday.
A rescue operation was launched late Wednesday and completed early morning led to the recovery of over nineteen dead bodies so far.
Around 18 bodies were recovered from the Clifton Beach of Karachi where one body was recovered from Hawks Bay beach, said police.
Rescue efforts were under way to recover four missing bodies out of a total of 23 people who had drowned.
The bodies were shifted to nearby JPMC hospital. A large number of people turned up at the beaches on the occasion of Eid al Fitr, despite the ban by the city administration on entering or bathing in the sea.
A senior administrative official Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui while talking to media had appealed to the people not to violate the ban as the seawater is rough and dangerous.
