
Two people were killed early Friday in a fire at a student residence in Leuven, a town in the east of the Belgian capital Brussels, local police confirmed. The bodies of two Irish students, one of Polish and the other of Latvian origin, were found by firefighters in the rubble. Both victims were in the Irish College of Leuven taking part in the Erasmus student exchange program and shared a residence with six other Irish students. The cause of the fire is not yet known. According to the mayor of Leuven Louis Tobback, the building had not been verified by firefighters
