A World War II fighter plane crashed in the US state of Texas Wednesday, killing two people on board, local media reported. The Texas Department of Public Safety and US Coast Guard rushed to the scene after witnesses on a charter boat reported seeing the plane go down near the coastal city of Galveston on the Gulf of Mexico, local TV KPRC reported. Coast Guard used helicopters and boats searching the Chocolate Bay near Galveston for more than an hour before locating the debris and recovering the two bodies. An official at the Scholes International Airport in Galveston, identified as the Airport director Hud Hopkins, said the plane, a P-51 Mustang type owned by the Lone Star Flight Museum next to the airport, was flown out of the airport Wednesday. The P-51 Mustang aircraft is a single-engine fighter plane that was used in World War II and the Korean War. It's not immediately known what caused the crash, and the identities of the victims also remained unknown.
