
At least 20 people were killed Saturday in the northeast Indian state of Manipur bordering Myanmar due to incidents related with heavy rains and landslides, said local media.
The Indian government has also dispatched rescue teams to Manipur immediately for rescue and relief operations in landslide- affected areas, said Press Trust of India.
Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken to Manipur Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh over phone and assured him all central assistance to deal with the situation arising out of the massive landslides in Chandel district of the state, said the report. National Disaster Response Force are being sent and will start work early Sunday morning, said the report.
Superintendent of Police of Chandel district Herojit Singh said 20 people were killed in the landslide, said the report.
