A 21-year-old Spaniard plotting to blow up a university with 140 kg of explosives was arrested on Thursday. Local media reported that the man hailing from Palma de Mallorca in eastern Spain planned to attack the University of the Balearic Islands. The man, named Jose Manuel M. S., wrote about his hatred for society in diaries and a blog, Spanish police said. He allegedly professed a special hatred for university students, which is why he chose to attack the University of the Balearic Islands, police added. Reports say the young man wanted to imitate the Columbine massacre of April 1999, when Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, killed 13 people and injured 24 in a high school in Colorado, the United States. The police investigation started five months ago when several comments related to the Columbine massacre were posted on the internet and detected by police. Jose Manuel considered the two boys who fired the guns as "idols" and he wanted to do the same. After having failed to obtain weapons, decided to collect chemical and explosive substances, police said. He was arrested on Wednesday while receiving more than 140 kg of explosives.
