Powerful typhoon Neoguri made landfall on Japan's southernmost main island of Kyushu on Thursday, leaving at least three people dead and 46 others injured.
The fiery typhoon also affected transportation, damaging homes and uprooting trees in a wide area of the country. The season's eighth typhoon made landfall near Akune City in the Kyushu region shortly before 7 a.m. (2200 Wednesday GMT) after passing through the islands of Okinawa, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The typhoon gradually weakened on Wednesday evening, but brought with torrential rains and violent winds to wide areas in Japan. Evacuation advisories were also issued for some 430,000 people on Thursday.
As of 2 p.m. (0500 GMT), the storm was located at 50 kilometers south-southwest of Cape Muroto, moving east-northeast at 40 kilometers per hour (kph) with its maximum wind velocity is 90 kph with gusts of 126 kph, the agency said.
The weather agency warned that the typhoon is expected to head for eastern Japan including Tokyo and to bring more heavy rain across the country through Friday.
Neoguri also destroyed or damaged nearly 34 houses, and flooded more than 500 buildings in 13 prefectures, according to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency. Neoguri, named after "raccoon" in Korean, also disrupted transportation services. Airlines canceled about 210 flights as of noon, mainly on domestic routes to and from airports in southern Kyushu and Shikoku islands.
Train services in Kyushu and the northeastern Japan were partially suspended.
