
Severe tropical storm Man-yi has wreaked havoc in parts of Japan, leaving 3 people dead and 5 missing, Japan's NHK World News reported. Residents in Kyoto Prefecture, one of the regions hardest hit by flooding, are busy cleaning up on Tuesday, a day after the storm passed. Heavy rain flooded a branch of the Yura River in Fukuchiyama City on Monday, inundating homes and fields in 5 districts. One of the major tourist spots in Kyoto City, Arashiyama, was also inundated, as record rains flooded the Katsura River. Pleasure boat operators said they have been forced to temporarily close their businesses. The boats, popular with tourists, were found washed ashore on Tuesday, covered in mud. Flooding from the Soma River in Koga City, Shiga Prefecture, damaged a railway bridge. Shigaraki Kohgen Railway says it cannot predict when the service will resume. The city, which administers the railway, said a concrete support pylon was washed away, and a 32 meter section of the bridge collapsed.
