Three people died Friday when a light aircraft crashed in a mountainous area in western Norway, dpa quoted police as saying. The Cessna 172 plane, registered to a German-owner, was bound for Trondheim's Vaernes airport and had departed from the Lofoten Islands, northern Norway, police spokesman Erling Landro told dpa. The crash site was north of Trondheim in the municipality of Bjugn. Landro said that a doctor flown in on an ambulance helicopter had confirmed the deaths. An investigation has been launched into the cause of the accident.
