A Chilean court sentenced four neo-Nazis to between seven years and life in prison for the killing of a 24-year-old gay man. Daniel Zamudio was in a coma for 25 days before he died in March 2012 from injuries sustained in the attack. His attackers burned him with cigarettes, beat him with an 18-pound rock, cut his ears open and carved swastikas into his skin near a park in Santiago. The Fourth Oral Criminal Tribunal in Santiago sentenced four men in the attack Monday, The Santiago Times reported. Ringleader Patricio Ahumada Garay received life in prison with chance of parole after 20 years, Alejandro Angulo and Raul Lopez got 15 years, and Fabian Mora Mora was sentenced to seven years. Zamudio's family and gay rights activists applauded the sentencing, but some thought all the attackers should have received life sentences, the newspaper said. "On the one hand we are satisfied, but Movilh, the family and I believe that at least three of the four accused should have been given life sentences," said Rolando Jimenez, the president of the Movement for Homosexual Integration and Liberation. "Sadly, the Chilean judicial system did not allow maximum sentences [to all offenders]."
