At least five people were killed when a boat carrying illegal migrants sank near Turkey's southwestern Mugla province Tuesday, state hospital sources said.
The vessel carried about 15 Syrian and Iraqi immigrants. The vessel sank during its journey between Mugla's Bodrum district as it proceeded towards the Greek coastal island of Kos, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
Turkish Coast Guards rescued eight migrants after fishermen spotted the boat sinking off Kara Island, 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) away from Bodrum.
Search and rescue teams backed by helicopters are continuing to look for more survivors.
