Torrential rain-triggered floods in Indonesia have forced the evacuation of 5,125 people from their homes in Jakarta, authorities said. The rain began Sunday and continued into Monday, Antara reported. "Up until 7 a.m. Monday, floods had inundated 31 subdistricts in 18 districts of Jakarta," National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesperson Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said. The agency said 7,367 houses have been inundated by the floods, affecting 24,269 people in Jakarta. "Most of the residents do not want to evacuate despite floods that have reached 100-250 centimeters [40-100 inches]," Sutopo noted. Those evacuated have been moved to shelters across the Indonesian capital. East Jakarta has been most affected by the floods; a 13-foot flood was reported in Cawang subdistrict. Floods have also blocked a number of roads in Jakarta, making transportation difficult.
