At least six people died and six others went missing when a boat capsized on a swollen river in the eastern Indian state of Bihar Thursday, said police.
The accident took place on the Sone river in the Rohtas district some 160 km from the state capital Patna, when the boat with 15 people, all women, onboard capsized amid turbulences of the river, said police.
Two of the rescued people died in hospital while four bodies of the victims have been recovered.
All the victims were travelling to an island in the middle of the river for doing farm work when the boat met with the mishap, Dehri-on-Sone Sub-Divisional Officer Pankaj Patel told the media.
Boat capsizing takes place often in India, especially during the monsoon season when many rivers become swollen or flooding due to heavy rains.
