At least six people have been killed in a landslide triggered by heavy rains in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand Sunday, a senior police official said Monday.
"The victims died in the landslide in Pangla village in the state's Pithoragarh district. Heavy rains have been lashing the state for the last 10 days," he said, on condition of anonymity.
The state has been put on high alert after the weather department forecast more rains in the next two days, he said.
Flash floods hit Uttarakhand last year, triggering landslides and sweeping away several towns and villages, in which thousands of people, mostly tourists, were killed.
