
Six trapped miners have been confirmed dead after a gas blast ripped through an illegal coal mine on Monday in southwest China's Yunnan Province, local authorities said Friday. After days of continuous rescue efforts, the bodies of the six miners had been retrieved as of Thursday night, said the publicity office of the Zhaoyang District government in the city of Zhaotong. Eight workers were believed to have been trapped following the accident that occurred at 3:40 p.m. on Monday at the mine in Qingmen Village, Zhaoyang District of Zhaotong City, according to the district government. Rescue and search work for the other trapped miners is still under way.
