At least seven people were killed and 40 others injured in a stampede in a political gathering in Pakistan's east city of Multan on Friday night, hospital sources said.
Dr Pervez, director for emergency in Nishtar Hospital, said that the victims died of suffocation.
Local media reports said that the stampede erupted when people were leaving from one of the three gates after attending a political gathering held by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a main opposition party in the country.
Talking to media, Shireen Mazari, spokesperson of PTI said that the incident happened after the party chairman Imran Khan left the venue.
The injured people have been shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan where at least four of them were in critical condition.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the incident and directed hospital administration to provide best possible medical treatment to the injured people.
