A massive murder took place Sunday in northern Serbian village of Martonos, where an angry father killed the newlywed bride of his son and five more family members, and then committed suicide.
The family tragedy occurred in a village just outside of the Serbian town of Kanjiza near the Hungarian border, where a 55-year-old man, according to the police, fired several shots from his hunting rifle, killing six family members on the way before killing himself.
Police stated that the motives of the crime were unresolved relations between family members, while the local media reported that prior to the tragedy the shooter had consumed significant amount of alcohol.
The crime took place just one day after the couple concluded marriage. According to local media, the son of the killer and his child survived because at the time of the murder they were not in the yard in front of the house of the bride, but in the garage.
Serbian public TV broadcaster RTS reported that the father was opposing to the marriage of his son and the 25-year-old girl, and that because of this, he took lives of the girl and her parents, as well as his own wife and her parents.
Police has been investigating at the scene since morning hours, when the murder took place.
