8 dead in Egypt fatal car crash

At least eight people were killed and seven others were injured on Saturday in a car crash on Cairo- Alexandria highway, a health ministry official told Xinhua.
The deadly accident took place when a trailer from behind hit the car and led to the microbus overturn, and killed eight of its passengers.
"The seven injured people have been transferred to hospital and most of them are in critical conditions," said Mohamed Sultan, head of the ministry's emergency care department.
Road accidents in the most populous Arab country kill at least 12,000 people every year, according to official reports.
Last March, 25 people were killed and 27 others injured when a bus collided with a truck at the entrance of Egypt's south Sinai. Later in May, nine people were killed when a minibus fell into a river in southern Egypt's Menia province.
In mid-July, 12 people were killed and 27 others injured when a bus collided with a vehicle on Qena-Safaga highway in southern Egypt, a security official told Xinhua.
The lack of highway monitoring system, poor road maintenance and the negligence of traffic rules are behind the high rate of road accidents in Egypt.
