8 killed in US drone strike in northwest Pakistan

At least eight people were killed in a U.S. drone strike in Pakistan's northwest tribal town of Datta Khel on Saturday morning, local media reported.
Dawn News said that the U.S. drone fired two missiles at a compound located in Datta Khel town of North Waziristan, a restive area at Pakistan-Afghan border.
Identities of the killed people have not been determined yet, but some local media reports said that the missiles fired from the drone pounded a hideout of Punjabi Taliban when a meeting was going on there.
The death toll is feared to rise as the compound leveled to ground following the attack, trapping several people under the debris.
Locals kicked off a rescue operation in the area to pull out the stranded people from the rubbles.
Saturday morning's attack is the sixth of its kind in the area since this year. To date over 58 people have been killed and several others injured in the U.S. drone attacks in the area.
The strike came at a time when Pakistan army is launching armed offensive against militants in North Waziristan.
So far over 400 militants have been killed by military in the operation Zarb-e-Azb, an Urdu phrase for "Strike of the Prophet's Sword", which started on June 15.
